Biography

I am a Pediatric Infectious Diseases clinician and researcher with over 40 years of experience. Trained in the US and internationally, I have been interested in Global Health (before that term was coined). My research work has spanned form bench work to clinical trials to population-based studies. Most of my projects have been related to vaccines, but also to the epidemiology of infectious diseases and their impact in the growth and development of children in Low-Middle Income countries.

My many endeavors over the years have given me an understanding of study design, epidemiology, statistical analyses, community communication, grant writing and publication. Also, my role as an academic faculty has molded me as an educator of the new generations. I hope to use those experiences to continue research in Hawai’i and assist new generation of researchers.
